Dr. Lorenzo Arnal Vallés, is an experienced researcher in the field of Organometallic Chemistry, in particular in Platinum and Ruthenium complexes, photophysical studies and Nuclear Magnetic Spectroscopy (NMR) applied to organometallic compounds. He completed his Bachelor in Chemistry at the University of Zaragoza. Then, he completed his Master in Química Molecular y Catálisis Homogénea” in the ISQCH (Instituto de Síntesis Quimica y Catálisis Homogénea, UZCSIC).
In 2023, he completed his PhD in Inorganic Chemistry at University of Zaragoza under the supervision of Prof. Violeta Sicilia and Dr. Sara Fuertes in the Inorganic and Organometallic chemistry Group. During his PhD, he was involved in different projects of organometallic chemistry and photochemistry. His main research project was focused in the synthesis of mono and dinuclear platinum complexes and the study of their photophysical properties and photoreactivity. Also, he did a 3-months pre-doctoral stay in the KU Leuven learning theoretical calculations under the supervision of Prof. Daniel Escudero in the Computational Photochemistry Lab. Along his Ph.D. period he acquired strong competences in organometallic synthesis, structural elucidation by NMR, photophysical characterization, photochemistry and computational chemistry, which resulted in 9 publications in peer-reviewed journals. Also, he co-mentored and co-supervised, together with Prof. Violeta Sicilia, an undergraduate and a master project. Thanks to all this work he gets one of the PhD extraordinary awards of the Zaragoza University.
In 2023, he moved to Milan to join the Luisa De Cola’s lab, working in ECLipse (ECL-based Infectious Pathogen (bio)Sensor) as main project. First, he did his research in the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research and for 6 months and the he moved to Unimi.
